8 DIAGRAMS.

Finally got to hear the album after a long wait of "Please save hip hop!". Damn. Personally for me it's a sad day in hip hop for me. I'm not a d!ck rider so all I gotta say is that the new Wu album was disappointing. "Take it Back" was the only track that actually made me hit replay. But the rest I skipped thru. RZA's rhymes are reminiscent to Mobb Deep's Prodigy by being fresh as back in the day but now just sounding straight lazy as hell. Maybe Raekwon was right about how the next Wu album will be even better without RZA. Crazy disappointing beats on this one. Should I share this album or just let ya'll wait a few more days? I think not. You might like it. But personally for me...this one gets the gas face. Ghostface's solo effort will probably top this one. I mean...most likely top this one.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So earlier this week I made a posting about Zhigge. An low and behold I just ran into this post from Dancemasterz.net. Nuff said. Peep their post.

1992 Wreckin Shop From Brooklyn -when hip hop was still hip hop

Just like the movie “Flash Dance” is so important for the history of bboying culure, this clip is extremely important when we talk about hip hop dance culutre. This clip you see here is actually edited sequence of several excerpts from a documentary “Wreckin Shop from Brooklyn”. This documentary was aired in PBS in 1992. Directed by music video director, Dian Martel, this documentary captured the vibe of golden age of hip hop era -early 90s. It features hip hop and house dancers in New York such as Mop Top Crew (Buddha Stretch, Peter Paul, Caleaf, Henry Link, E-Joe) and Misfitss (Rubberband, Marquest, Kito, Peek A Boo, Prancer). As many people consider this era as golden age of hip hop dancing, I recall music videos in this era featured lot of real hip hop dancers unlike today’s music video where you see the mixture of jazz and hip hop. One interesting dancer in this video is Kito from Misfitss. He has his unique rhythm in dancing though it may hard to see that in this video. But I saw him dancing in other video and he was different in a sense that he seems to dance off beat purposefully but still look fresh. The best scene comes at the end of the documentary which is the battle at club. In this clip, it starts around 7:20.

Dancers appeared in this video are

00:35 Kito
00:41 Marquest, Prancer
01:47 Buddha Stretch, Link, Loose Joint
03:42 E-Joe, Tony?
03:57 Caleaf, Ramier (Caleaf’s Brother)
04:51 Rubber Band, Prancer, Kito, Marquest

6:23 Kito
7:03 Marquest

7:25 Loose Joint
7:30 Caleaf
7:33 Loose joint
7:43 Peek a boo
7:49 Peter paul
8:00 Stretch
8:15 Rubber band
8:23 kito
8:27 Peek A Boo
8:36 Peter paul
8:47 Kito
8:51 Marquest
9:01 Rubber Band
9:10 Marquest
9:14 Ramier
9:19 Marquest

ZHIGGE - ZHIGGE

Besides Kool G Rap's "Ill Street Blues" and Poor Righteous Teachers "Easy Star", this is one of my treasured pieces of vinyl. I would constantly watch Zhigge just to figure out the dance steps since I really wasn't into the whole b boy thing. There was a documentary I remember watching on KPBS that was about that whole dance movement. It had the Mop Top Crew, Lo-Lifers, and a bunch of other NY crews on it. I was so hyped watching their moves that I just wished I was out in NY to experience it. The back drop music was just killing it too with instrumentals like Jungle Brothers " J. Beez Comin' Through" and Public Enemy's "Shut'em Down Pete Rock Remix". WHAT THE HELL IS THE NAME OF THAT DOCUMENTARY! Oh well. Here's the good stuff.

1. Rakin' in the Dough
2. Harlem

10. Hey DJ
11. Make My Day
12. Method Man

This is not no throwback joint mix. This is just some straight what the hell was poppin in 93 type of mix. Live 93 type of mixtape.

I'm trying to stay away from posting throwback mixes made by dj's right now. I wanna share more of the mixes made during that time. I think it gives it a more authentic feel. I mean anybody can make a throwback mix but if you a cat that's 28 and under making a throwback mix...I don't wanna hear it. If you didnt live it during the time, then it just doesnt seem real to me when you play it. The emotions of hearing Wu-Tangs "Protect ya Neck" is way different when you just found out about them and not that many people know about them. Kind of like finding a diamond in the rough. When I first bought that Wu-Tang single, I went bonkers over it. Told everyone around me about it. Not knowing they was gonna blow up and be legends how they are now more than 10 years later.

But now cats can just buy the repress or download the mp3 and make a cd. Not knowing or feeling how it is to actually grow up with those artist and see their transitions in the music biz. So that just kills it for me when I hear a young cats throwback cd.

So for that confusing reason (and I know it might sound confusing) i'm gonna try my best to stay away from youngin' throwback cd's and just give you the real mixes during that time from the djs who were poppin at that time.

NOW GET THAT PODCAST!!!

WU-TROUBLES.

Miss Info got more news on the whole Wu-Tang beef. Peep.

From MissInfo.tv:

Over the years I've been lucky enough to work with the Wu many times. From the Enter the 36 Chambers release parties at Trafalgar Square and Webster Hall....to album previews with Raekwon...to indepth discussions with Ghost and Rza for the "Bling Bling" book...

And that's why I was honored when Ghostface and Raekwon reached out last week and said that they needed to talk to me about something important.

But, see, I'm also a die-hard Wu fan.
Which is why, this is one exclusive I wish I never had to hear.

Ghost fired the first shot on MTV's Mixtape Monday, saying:

"the hierarchy at Wu-Tang Clan is on some bullsh-. They trying to f- around and make me push my album back and doing all this. But n-as ain't give us money when we did them Wu-Tang tours... n-as is holding onto a lot of money...It's a battle right now."
"The Big Dough Rehab is my album, 8 Diagrams is their album. But it ain't got nothing to do with the regular members. 'Cause I love Raekwon, Masta Killa, U-God, Genius, all them. But it's on right now... N-as better pay my f-ing money. Matter of fact, they can keep the money - just get me out of their life right now."

And in this two-part conversation, Raekwon goes deeper into the creative and business problems within the Wu..Read More..

There's another video from this interview on her site. All I heard was "we gonna have another Wu album without RZA". - Raekwon

HELLZ BELLZ INTERVIEW ON FORMAT MAGAZINE.

The last time the fashion industry experienced a female liberation movement was during the "bra burning 60s." Bras, high heels, make-up and other items supporting the unattainable, standard of beauty, were lit aflame in a "freedom trash can" to symbolize opposition to sexual oppression.

Traditionally, the women's wear industry has been flooded with hyper-feminine pieces with low-necklines and bias cuts leaving females to pursue the male dominated streetwear industry. With little to no options, females were only recently given quality alternatives including a leader of the female streetwear pack, Hellz Bellz.

Since 2005, Hellz Bellz has provided edgy, trendsetting females with graphic tees, jackets, denim and accessories that feature everything from a gun-toting Minnie Mouse to studded hand cuff belts and AK47s. Designer Lanie Alabanza defies all the rules of conformity and any fashion entity that claims a woman's style cannot breach strength, individuality and feminine flair simultaneously. As Hellz Bellz approaches its four-year anniversary it continues to provide fashion alternatives for the bold fashionista. A streetwear liberation is upon us, become a part of the movement.

Format: How are you?
Lanie Alabanza: I'm good thanks. I've been busy as hell with all the trade shows that just passed and traveling back in forth between NY and Cali. It's been a bit stressful but everything is starting to settle down again so I actually time to breath and relax a bit, but not for too long.

Format:
What have you been working on?
Lanie: Right now I'm working on getting my Holiday collection ready to ship, making adjustments to the Spring I & II line, finishing up Summer 08, and putting together some special projects here and there. Sounds like a lot but luckily I have my husband, Bam on board now to take care a lot of the business end of the brand and helping out with design for the denim collection, which is a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.

Format: What theme have you developed for the winter collection?
Lanie: When designing a collection, I basically make what I want to see in my closet. This didn't fall short for my Holiday '07 collection, which is set to deliver mid-October to early November. I've always had an interest in the early 60's mod/punk scene in London so I developed a collection with a mod influence but gave it a military twist through the cuts, details and graphics. The military-mod theme isn't completely literal but its influence is apparent.

I really can't wait for this line to drop. I have to say that this collection is by far my favorite so far. I designed the collection right after I left my previous job. So I was able to put so much more into it and it shows.

Can I Get Open Lyrics(feat. Jay-Z)

Ready on the right, the right, the right,

ready on the left, the left, the left

[Ski:]
Ayo T, Can i get open? (You know it)
Hey Jay, Can i get open? (You know it)
Hey ya'll, Can i get open? (You know it!!)
(You want a fly style Ski's about to show it)

[Verse 1: Ski]
As I, um you know, play you like Uno
Sigga-sigga slam a jam, jugga just like a sumo
I gets big, check out my thingamajigum
Styles I kick em, suger smack ya dig em
Divva-divva damn, I'm divva on a sigga-sigga slam
You knows who I am, you knows who I am
Back up that's an order
Da-da, Da-da, get out the water
Nah not yet, ready, set, go!
When I grab the mic they get pet-tro-fied
Why?, Hey! I'm just so fly
Lions, Tigers, Bears, oh my God!!
Goodness gracious, whitness style
Drive a child wild
I'm rippin this microphone
Ain't no place like home, Ain't no place like home

[Tone Hooker:]
Yo Ski, Can i get open? (You know it)
Hey Jay, Can i get open? (You know it)
Hey ya'll, Can i get open? (You know it!!)
(You want a fly style T's about to show it)

[Verse 2: Tone Hooker]
You know they got me like, Holy cow, what can you do now?
When I flip the style girls be like "Ohh child"
I'm living dangerous
But as strange as living the lifestyle of a bad rich and famous kid
When I get raw baby paw better parlay
Beat me?, aww please, that's what they all say
You can't get with the kid, no not the kid
"Uh-uh no he didn't", oh yes I did
Well I wax enough backsides in a jiffy
"I know he ain't just front on him", but you damn skippy
Good god, damn I'm slam hard
With my sqaud, uh good god
Damn I'ma scream, AH he's a dream
Boat when I float, rough on every note
Mean like a horror flick, till tomorrow
I'm gone, ghost, peace, sianara

[Jay-Z:]
Yo T, Can i get open? (You know it)
Hey Ski, Can i get open? (You know it)
Hey ya'll, Can i get open? (You know it!!)
(You want a fly style Jay's about to show it)

[Verse 3: Jay-Z]
Well, cause Can I? is never a question of how but
When I rip it, will I quit it, forget it
Still I'm always on point whenever I hit it
Biting's forbidden, don't do what ya gonna..., too late ya'll did it
I'm shredding the track, I'm burning you back-back, like Backdraft
Brotha's who running the crack down I stutter, that-that niggas fast
I pick up the pieces, I straigten it out like Pete Rock
Or C is, or creases, it's your choice, Jesus--Christ
I'm nice like that, you freakin gay right
I flow like water, so put your finger in a dyke
I slam, I got original flavor, pick up the jam
I killed Chico, and now it's just me- The Man
Go get your gun I go all out with a can
Brothers is having a hard time with who I am
J kicken it, A rippin it, way past Y
I'm so crraazzyy, AAAAHHHH

[Jay-Z:] Did I get open? (you know it)
[Tone Hooker:] Hey ya'll did I get open? (you know it)
[Ski:] Hey ya'll did I get open? (you know it)
[All:] You know it, you know it, you know it

[x10 till fade:]
Ready on the right, the right, the right,
ready on the left, the left, the left

ARTIST CHECK: DAS EFX

Das EFX is an American hip-hop group. It consists of rappers Skoob (also known as Books, born Willie Hines on January 2, 1971) and Dre (also known as Krazy Drayzy, born Andre Weston on June 1, 1972). They rose to popularity in the early 1990s due to their affiliation with EPMD's Hit Squad and the group's stream of consciousness lyrical delivery, which became one of the most influential lyrical styles in hip hop music during the early 1990s.

Both members of the group hail from Brooklyn, New York City but the two met at Virginia State University in 1988 and began performing together. They named themselves "Das" standing for "Drayz and Skoob" and "EFX" meaning "effects". Das EFX caught the attention of EPMD at a local talent show where, despite losing the competition, they did well enough to convince EPMD to sign them to a recording contract. The duo gained critical and commercial fame with the release of their landmark debut album, Dead Serious, which highlighted their unusual rapping style which they nicknamed "sewage". The style combined nonsensical lines with a fast-paced ragga flow (which included words that began with "iggity") and numerous pop culture references:

Riggity-row, giggity-gadzooks, here I go, so
Fliggity-flame on, G-Geronimo, yo
I biggity-burn riggity-rubber when I blabber great
I miggity-make the Wonder Twins deactivate
It's crazy, I'm biggity-breakin' backs and bustin' lips
I friggity-freaked Gladys Knight and those freakin' Pips
Shrimps, I miggity-make enough noise like Bamm-Bamm
Throw boulders from Bedrock, you'll get dropped, I slam man

Dead Serious went platinum and its lead single, "They Want EFX,"(which contains samples from James Brown's "Blind Man Can See It" and Malcolm McLaren's "Buffalo Gals") reached the top ten on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, the top 40 on its Hot 100 Singles chart and #1 on its Hot Rap Tracks chart. Follow-up singles "Mic Checka" and "Straight Out the Sewer" did not chart on the Hot 100 but reached #1 and #3 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart, respectively.

The duo also made a guest appearance on Ice Cube's smash hit single "Check Yo Self". The song reached #20 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Rap Tracks chart. Their refrain of "Chiggity-check yo self before you wriggity-wreck yo self" became a catchphrase in 1993. The song has since appeared in the videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on the radio station Radio Los Santos.

From the time of their debut in 1992 to 1993, several elements of their style were adopted by other hip-hop artists, including the Lords of the Underground, The Fu-Schnickens, Kris Kross, Common and even, to a lesser extent, Public Enemy. The iggity style was also referenced in the 1996 BLACKstreet song "No Diggity" with "diggity" meaning "doubt". This also became popular catchphrase at the time.

As their career progressed, however, Das EFX's once-distinctive and unique lyrical delivery became more commonplace as other artists imitated it. Derailed by the popularity of their own style, the duo slowed down their fast-paced flow, eliminated the iggity prefix and downplayed their cartoonish content on their second album, Straight Up Sewaside. However, around the time of their third album Hold It Down (which was far less commercially successful than their debut release), Das EFX found themselves caught in the middle of EPMD's ugly breakup; it led to a three-year absence from recording. They returned in 1998 with the album Generation EFX and followed up in 2003 with the album How We Do; both were panned by critics. Das EFX continue to record and perform today to a much smaller yet devoted cult following.

In 2006, after a hiatus, Das Efx went on many International tours with DJ Rondevu.

In 2007, the group appeared on the remix of Nas' "Where are They Now" and continues to tour the globe on a regular basis.

In 2007 the group had a large European tour and performed in Serbia, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Spain, Germany, Japan, Chile and many other countries. They are currently working on a new album that is scheduled to come out in sometime in 2008.
